I need a new skill

For a while now I've been thinking to myself "I'd like to learn"... crochet, sewing, ukulele, embroidery, Spanish, ...

And normally when I see people asking this type of question I like to respond - All of the above!

But really, I think my head would explode if I try to learn all of the above in the same day.

Plus I'm kind of busy with my etsy shop (I've been posting a new thing each day for a few weeks now), and I have a super secret new project I'm working on...

I think out of the five I'd have more fun learning the ukulele, but I don't know for how much longer I'll have the sewing machine ...

Any suggestions? Are you embarking on a new skill?

  1. I am trying to learn how to sew. It's really hard to learn a new skill. Necessity is key for me. (As the saying goes, "necessity is the mother of invention.")
Recently, I had to attend a conference - for which I had no dress pants to wear. My only dress pants needed to be hemmed. I didn’t think it was possible to sew these… but, I googled how to hem dress pants and gave it a try. They came out pretty good, lol. In the end, the conference was canceled and I ended not needing them… but, hey I learned how to sew :)

  2. I learned to crochet by watching tutorials online-- just a few years ago. And it's good to learn to finish up knitting projects, like adding edgings. You could learn while you listen to Spanish tapes.
And then when you're done, embroider your newly crochet edged knitting projects.
And THEN learn ukulele. I didn't know how else to add that in there. Subliminal sleep-learning? Oh, I forgot about sewing. Add that to next year's to-do list!

  3. I'm working on finishing my first knitted garment....a baby sweater. I want to work on the edging some more but then it is all done. Just in time to join the Tour De France spinning event on Rav. I'm still new to spinning but I learn more each time I do it!

  4. i knit, and recently tried a little spinning with a drop spindle. so, i'd like to learn to spin, and maybe someday crochet. i'd also love to learn spanish, but the older i get, the less likely it seems that will ever happen! good luck with the ukulele!

  5. Thanks for visiting my blog Thea :)

I have a list of things-I-want-to-do as long as my arm! Being practical I reckon you should learn sewing first, as you have a machine. And it may take a little longer to master the ukelele!

  6. Juliann - Cool. You go!

tamdoll - ya, exactly. I'm tempted to try and fit it allll in.

michelle - spinning would be on that list, except I don't have a wheel and 6 months ago when I really wanted to learn it it just made me sad. I've been seeing a lot of people mention the Tour de Fleece. Have fun!

gibknitty - thanks. It's never to late to learn! http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Strange-News/Woman-Earns-College-Degree-At-94-Hazel-Soares-Graduates-In-Art-History-In-California/Article/201005315632986
