I will take better photographs ...

I often look at people's photographs on blogs or etsy and get jealous, wishing I knew how to make beautiful and non-blurry pictures.

So I've decided I'm going to.

Even though I don't have a fancy camera (actually I have an old crappy one), I figure even if I can't produce super high quality photos, I can at least improve.

And I'm hoping a few of you will join me! Why? So we can encourage each other, and because I've found if I announce something on the blog I'm much more likely to do it : )

I've made a blog hop for you to add your name to, and if you want you can put it on your blog as well. It's a shared list and people see the same list on each blog, so we can follow each other's progress.

Here's what I'm planning on learning and reading this week

1. Read manual
2. Basic Tips
3. How to hold a camera
4. Experiment with the camera's modes
5. ISO Settings
6. Macro setting
7. Composition and Rule of Thirds and Composition rules

And now that I've made the list I'm excited to get started!

  1. Hi Thea, what a nice blog layout you have! I hear you on the photos. I'm envious of the fab photos I see everywhere! I've been working on improving mine. I have a Kodak Easyshare which does allow me to adjust the settings. I have really tried to study photos on Craftgawker to see if mine are up to snuff. They rarely are, but I'm working on improving style and backgrounds....it's harder to do when you have a live model.

  2. Thanks for the compliment :) It's definitely a hobby of mine. I'm trying to sell some of them on Etsy too but that hasn't been a real success yet. Those sound like some good starting points for becoming a better photographer. Good luck!

  4. A good way to eliminate some blur is to have a tripod. Even a little table top one will help. It will steady the camera and when you click the shutter button it won't be as apt to shake the camera. Good luck!

This is a really tempting idea, I'm so aware that my photography needs to improve. I'm just not sure about this 'blog hop' thing - does it simply link blogs together or cross post entries?

  6. Alas, I inherited the Terrible Photography gene from an aesthetically impaired ancestor. I'll be cheering from the wings, though! :)

  13. You're welcome artangel! I should start charging for it :)

Karen - Oh no! But I've had remotes like that, and they worked fine for years, so I'm hoping your will do the same.

  15. Funny, I've been thinking about taking a photography class. The last time I'd taken one was in high school.... many, many years ago now.

  16. It's sad but true that if you're a crafter and sell goods on Etsy, you have to become a crafter/photographer. I am a horrible photographer and I really need to improve. This is a great plan. Keep sharing what you have learned! Thanks!
